Total Solar Eclipse ’24 - Great North American Eclipse : The First Solar Eclipse of the Year

Every year before the festival time , we involve ourselves in cleaning the house. Align all those decluttered stuff and ensure everything is placed in order. Things which we require, we ensure we keep it well and things which are old, worn out, we replace it.

Similarly just before Gudipadwa, the Hindu New year, which falls on the 9th April ’24, we have the Total Solar Eclipse occurring on the 8th April ’24.

So here I refer to spiritual cleansing that we all can undergo, hold onto values and beliefs that nourish us and let go of distorted thoughts, patterns of life, illusions.

Eclipse season is not just an astronomical period, but holds its astrological importance too. It highlights the areas that demand change. It is the time of the year to not only clean the environment outside but also concentrate on the inward journey.

The total solar eclipse starts at 21:12 (IST) & 15:42 (UTC), it is advisable to observe fast at least 3 to 4 hours before eclipse time, during the eclipse and maintain fasting till the eclipse period is over.

What is Total Solar Eclipse?

A total solar eclipse occurs when the Moon completely covers the Sun, blocking its bright light and revealing the Sun's corona, its outer atmosphere. This is a rare phenomenon that can only be seen from a narrow path on Earth's surface, called the path of totality.

During totality, the sky darkens dramatically, and the temperature can drop. Stars and planets may become visible. The corona, which is normally too faint to see with the naked eye, becomes visible as a pearly white halo around the dark disk of the Moon.

Note:

It's crucial to never look directly at the Sun, even during a partial eclipse. The Sun's intense light can permanently damage your eyes.

Other Planetary Conjunctions:

  • As you read the blog today i.e 5th April ‘24, the moon is transiting Aquarius and will be in conjunction with Mars & Saturn. There will be outburst of anger, feeling of frustration and too much chaos within. Sit back and avoid being reactive. It’s ok not to answer back but let go. Avoid saying something, which you may regret later.
  • From the 8th to 13th April, there is a tight conjunction of Mars and Saturn in Aquarius. This conjunction occurs once in every two years and is regarded as one of the not so pleasant ones. Aquarius is an air sign and mars signifies fire, so be cautious as fire incidents are likely to take place. Many people may experience a short temper due to aggression and feeling of helplessness. Time to just be calm. Always remember, we are responsible for our own thoughts, behaviour and actions. Let this time pass.
  • Mercury is retrograde and in gandanta at 00-37-02 in Ashwini pada 1 in Aries. Too much confusion, miscommunication is likely to happen. Please keep your contracts clear. People may misunderstand what you are saying. Loss of data, internet shutdown or delay in social media platforms is likely to happen. Take care of children’s health.

Caution from the Astrological Significance :

  • Major events get triggered during the eclipse and its impact is experienced as the planets pass through the eclipse degrees.
As the eclipse is happening at 25 degrees, Mercury will be crossing the eclipse degrees on the 16th April (Retrograde motion) & 6th May in direct motion, Venus will be crossing those degrees on the 20th April , Mars will be crossing those degrees on the 26th May.
So the events will be further triggered based on the planets conjunct the eclipse point.
  • If you are running Sun/Rahu, Sun/Ketu, Moon/Rahu or Moon/Ketu Dasha then you are likely to experience events that could be challenging depending on the houses where the Pisces and Virgo signs rule.
  • Sun will be eclipsed on the 8th and then in gandanta on the 13th and 14th April. Take care of your diet, father’s health. We are likely to experience a major political warzone in the next two months.
  • A quick advice : Avoid overeating, fried foods, and eating outside. Try to fast 3 to 4 hours before the eclipse starts and till the end of the eclipse. Sun represents our digestive system and it gets majorly impacted.
  • It’s a day of big Amavasya, the last one as we enter the new Hindu year on the 9th April. Moon is combust so there is feeling of anxiety, paranoia, depression and one is likely to face all sorts of fears which may not even exist
  • Drive Slowly, don’t overspeed. Avoid getting triggered and no need to race while you are driving.
  • Absolutely not a good time to make major decisions on business front, job front, relationship or marriage.
  • Venus is exalted and is part of the eclipse. Women are likely to experience challenges. Be cautious. Avoid late night travels, Be safe.
  • Your land deals can wait for a week’s time, you can do new investment in the stock market once Sun enters Aries i.e.14th April ’24.
  • Overall it’s a period where there is a rollercoaster of events, which may or may not happen during the eclipse time, but later throughout the span of next 2 months until May end. We are likely to experience earthquakes, Tsunamis, water/power shortage, extreme heat, violence and aggravation in people’s behaviour. The tolerance factor of people is going to be a major challenge.

Caution from the Numerological Significance :

  • The year 2024 adds to number 8. The eclipse is happening on the 8th of April. Also Mars will conjunct the eclipse point on the 26th May which again adds to number 8. Number 8 is represented by planet Saturn and is placed very well in its Moolatrikona rashi Aquarius.
  • We are certainly going to experience certain events which will be challenging and remembered. Avoid travels on the above dates. Be cautious.

Remedies :

  • Eclipses are potent to carry too many negative vibes around it. So bathing before the eclipse and engaging in spiritual practices like mantra chanting, meditation is highly recommended.
  • Worshiping Lord Shiva is highly advisable. You can chant “Om Namah Shivay” as it will help you deal with the internal chaos.
  • I personally recommend most of my clients to worship Lord Hanuman. Along with the eclipse the Saturn-mars conjunction is equally powerful leading to troublesome times.
Chant the powerful Hanuman Chalisa, minimum 7 or 11 times to protect yourself.
  • You may also chant the guru mantras or indulge in spiritual practices of your Guru. I read Shankar Gita as my guru is Shankar Maharaj.
If you don’t follow any guru, you may chant “Om Guruve Namah” a minimum of 108 times (1 maala).
  • Self-discipline is the key to these testing times. Any sort of over indulgence will certainly backfire.
Some form of physical exercise can help you channelise your emotions. Those endorphins released during workouts aid in calming minds and have a positive mindset throughout the day.
  • Avoid alcohol or any kinds of deep-fried foods or spicy foods since that can lead to risks of digestive issues.
  • Chanting any mantra during this period augments the impacts exponentially. It is said that chanting can give 100 times more results than regular times. So, make the best use of this time.
  • Meditation, Chakra dhyana could be highly experiential and deep if one practices the same during this period. If you want to immerse yourself in a peaceful mindfulness session with guided meditation audio, check out our Mindfulness Practitioner app at https://www.mindfulnesspractitioner.com/.The first five audio sessions are on us!

Kindly Note :

Chanting mantras, meditation or reciting prayers always create a kavach (protection layer) around you. You may engage in any spiritual practices of your choice. The above are just recommendations from me.

Conclusion:

Eclipse season is always accompanied with chaos and instability in life but that’s where you need to put your thoughts inside a box and ride the wave. The event of total solar eclipse brings along with it a lot of jarring changes that will influence your life (for better or for worse). However, it's vital to keep going with your life, embrace the changes and work towards a brighter tomorrow.

The main objective of this article is to create awareness about the caution one needs to take.

I express my gratitude to my Gurus, my teachers, and my mother for guiding me on this divine path of Jyotish. My brother, who inspires me to be a better version of myself, and my Jyotish friends, who have immensely supported me in this journey.
