Liberate from your sins by keeping Papankusha Ekadashi fast
Papankusha Ekadashi upavasa is observed on Ekadashi tithi of the Shukla paksha during the month of Ashwin as per the Hindu calendar. According to the Gregorian calendar, it coincides in the months of September-October. This ekadashi is dedicated to worshipping Lord Padmanabha, an incarnation of Lord Vishnu.
While explaining the significance of observing the Papankusha Ekadashi vrat, Lord Krishna said to King Yudhishthir that observing the Papankusha Ekadashi and worshiping Lord Vishnu in the form of Padmanabha mounted on Sheshnag destroys the past and present sins of the devotees and also saves them from the sufferings of Yamaloka. It is believed that, by observing the fast, devotees attain wealth, prestige, enjoy all the luxuries in the universe and attain salvation at the feet of Lord Vishnu.
Observing fast in this Ekadashi provides salvation not only to the observer but also to the ten generations of their maternal and paternal sides of the devotees.
Worshiping Lord Vishnu with complete devotion and engaging in charity to the Brahmans and needy, and observing silence will help the individuals in earning blessings of a healthy and happy life.
On this day, the observer of this fast must get up early and wear clean clothes after taking a bath. The fasting ritual of Papankusha Ekadashi starts on the 10th day, ‘Dashami’, from which a single ‘sattvic’ meal is taken before sunset and the fast continues till the end on Ekadashi. While observing the vrat, the devotees must not speak lies or do any sinful acts or deeds. The vrat ends on the ‘Dwadashi’. The devotees must offer food and some form of donations to a Brahmin before breaking the fast.
It is advised that the observer of this fast spend their time reciting and singing Vedic mantras and bhajans in the praise of Lord Vishnu.
On the day of Papankusha Ekadashi, Lord Vishnu is worshiped according to the ‘Archana Vidhi’. The ‘Padmanabha’ form of Sri Hari is worshiped with flowers, betel leaves, diyas and incense sticks. At the end of puja rituals, an aarti is performed.
