Margashirsha maas is the ninth month of the hindu calendar and is considered extremely pious. As per Maharashtrian, Tamil, Kannada calendar, the auspicious month of Margashirsha or Agrahayana is getting started from today, 24 November 2022 and will last till 23 December this year. According to Hindu astrology, Mrigashira Nakshatra sets the beginning of this month. The Hindu scriptures mark this month as 'Maasonam Margashirshoham' meaning no other month is as auspicious as the month of Margashirsha. In this month, Lord Vishnu & Maa Lakshmi, Goddess of wealth, are worshipped to bestow the devotees with fortune, success, purity, power, and auspiciousness. During the month of Margashirsha, many people are involved in making donations and charity also to wash away all the sins from their lives and to lead a happy and prosperous life.
This holy month serves a great significance in Hindu scriptures as the holiest Bhagavad Gita also has a description about it where Lord Krishna declared himself as Margashirsha month. He has also mentioned that bathing in the Yamuna river during this holy month brings the devotee closer to him. The first day of this month is considered as the Devas first day of the year in the Satyug.
In this month, many Hindu festivals are celebrated such as Gita Jayanti, Mokshada Ekadashi, Kalabhairav Jayanti, Dattatreya Jayanti and many more.
During this month, ‘Maha Lakshmi Guruwar Vrat Puja’ & fast is held every Thursday. It is considered highly rewarding and meritorious for the devotees. Bathing in holy rivers like Ganga & Yamuna during this month is also regarded as bringing happiness, peace & positivity in life, especially for unmarried ladies.
