As per Hindu Shastras, whenever 'evil' prevails over 'good' in the universe, Lord Vishnu takes a divine Avatar to demolish all the vices & initiate a new Yuga eventually. As it's very well-known in the case of Dwapar Yuga, which had lasted for a total of 8,64,000 years, Lord Vishnu has incarnated as 'Shri Krishna.' He had led the foundation of the greatest war of all times 'Mahabharata' to free the world from all kinds of evils.
Till the date, Lord Vishnu has incarnated a total of nine (9) Avatars.
Similarly as per the prophecies of Hindu Shastras, he would be taking his tenth & final avatar as 'Lord Kalki' to end the on-going 'Kali Yuga.'
Basically, the word 'Kalki' has been derived from a Sanskrit term 'Kalka.' And, the name 'Kalki' stands for 'the one who eliminates all kinds of filth from the universe.'
Hence, to celebrate the future birth of Kalki (tenth Avatar of Lord Vishnu), a special day has been reserved in Hindu dharma which is termed as "Kalki Jayanti." As per Hindu calendar, it falls on the very sixth day of (Shashthi) Shukla Paksha fortnight in Shravan month. This year, "Kalki Jayanti" is on the 10th August ‘24.
As per “Drik Panchang”, the “tithi” for “Kalki Jayanti” in the year ‘24 is as follows:
Kalki Jayanti on Saturday, 10th August ‘24
Rooted in Hindu tales and prophecies, this celebration holds deep religious and spiritual importance for millions of devotees worldwide. The concept of Lord Kalki's arrival is intriguing and symbolic, as it represents the cycle of creation, preservation, and destruction, ultimately leading to the restoration of dharma (righteousness).
Kali Yuga, an era characterized by moral and spiritual decline, marks the final phase of a four-age cycle called the Yugas. It is said to be the age of darkness and confusion, where adharma (unrighteousness) prevails. In this period, virtues such as truth, compassion, and righteousness diminish, while greed, dishonesty, and corruption become rampant. The human spirit grapples with a profound sense of disconnection from the divine, leading to widespread chaos and suffering. The degradation of moral values and the rise of materialism signal the nadir of the cosmic cycle, making divine intervention essential to restore balance and order.
As per 'Kalki Purana', the prophecy foretells that Lord Kalki will descend on Earth during this period to cleanse it of evil, establish dharma, and initiate a new cycle of righteousness. The 'Kalki Purana,' along with other ancient texts, describes this Avatar as a harbinger of profound transformation. Unlike previous incarnations of Lord Vishnu, Kalki is depicted as a warrior on a white horse, wielding a sword to eradicate malevolence and restore cosmic harmony. His arrival signifies the end of the Kali Yuga and the dawn of a new era, known as Satya Yuga, where truth and virtue will reign supreme.
The prophecy holds that Lord Kalki will be born to a Brahmin family in the village of Sambhal. His parents, Vishnuyasha and Sumati, are foretold to raise him with the values and wisdom necessary to undertake his divine mission. Upon reaching adulthood, Kalki will embark on a campaign to vanquish the forces of adharma. Lord Parashurama, the sixth Avatar of Lord Vishnu, is prophesied to be the future guru of Lord Kalki, imparting divine wisdom and martial skills to prepare him for his mission. This mentorship signifies the continuity and unity of the divine purpose across different Yugas. Under his guidance, Lord Kalki will gather an army of righteous warriors and lead them into battle against tyrants, corrupt leaders, and those who perpetuate evil. His actions will not only purify the Earth but also inspire humanity to return to the path of righteousness and spiritual enlightenment. The Kalki Avatar is seen as a beacon of hope and a divine promise that no matter how bleak the situation may become, the restoration of dharma and the upliftment of humanity are inevitable.
This period of Kalki's reign will be marked by significant social and spiritual reforms. The corrupt and wicked will be punished, while the virtuous will be rewarded. The divine justice meted out by Kalki will ensure that the balance of karma is maintained, and the cycle of life is set back on the path of righteousness. This era will witness a resurgence of Vedic wisdom and spiritual practices, leading to the overall elevation of human consciousness. Lord Kalki's mission will not just be limited to physical battles but will also encompass the eradication of ignorance and the illumination of the human mind with divine knowledge. The prophecy, therefore, serves as a profound reminder of the cyclical nature of time and the eternal triumph of good over evil.
As per the prophetic texts, Lord Kalki would be born in the village of Sambhal in the Shambhala dynasty to a Brahmin family whose parents would be named Vishnuyasha and Sumati. He would be depicted with a white horse namely Devadatta, a talking parrot (Shukla) who would know everything about past, present & future, holding a sword, and is described as having exceptional warrior and leadership qualities.
Many religious texts prove that Lord Kalki has taken birth on the earth while some mention that he would be born when 'Ghor Kali Yuga' era would arrive.
Lord Kalki is believed to be an embodiment of divine wisdom, capable of enlightening humanity and leading them towards spiritual upliftment.
His purpose is to annihilate those who have strayed from the path of dharma and bring about a golden age known as Satya Yuga, characterized by virtue, peace, and spiritual enlightenment. Lord Kalki's arrival is seen as a beacon of hope, inspiring devotees to endure the challenges of Kali Yuga with the assurance of a brighter future.
People celebrate this divine day of 'Kalki Jayanti' the similar way they do for other festivities related to Lord Vishnu.
The Hindu texts say that praying to Lord Kalki during “Kalki Jayanti Muhurat” is the most propitious. As per “Drik Panchang”,
Kalki Jayanti Muhurat - 04:31 PM to 07:05 PM on 10th August ‘24
Duration - 02 Hours 34 Mins
Kalki Jayanti serves as a reminder of the cyclical nature of existence, where cosmic forces govern the rise and fall of civilizations. Lord Kalki's imminent arrival symbolizes hope, righteousness, and the triumph of good over evil. The festival emphasizes the importance of living a virtuous life, upholding dharma, and seeking spiritual enlightenment even amidst challenging times. It encourages devotees to be agents of positive change and fosters a sense of unity and devotion to the divine in the pursuit of a better world.
