“Kalki Jayanti”: Celebrating the Future Avatar of Lord Vishnu and the Promise of a New Age

As per Hindu Shastras, whenever 'evil' prevails over 'good' in the universe, Lord Vishnu takes a divine Avatar to demolish all the vices & initiate a new Yuga eventually. As it's very well-known in the case of Dwapar Yuga, which had lasted for a total of 8,64,000 years, Lord Vishnu has incarnated as 'Shri Krishna.' He had led the foundation of the greatest war of all times 'Mahabharata' to free the world from all kinds of evils.

Till the date, Lord Vishnu has incarnated a total of nine (9) Avatars.

Similarly as per the prophecies of Hindu Shastras, he would be taking his tenth & final avatar as 'Lord Kalki' to end the on-going 'Kali Yuga.'

Basically, the word 'Kalki' has been derived from a Sanskrit term 'Kalka.' And, the name 'Kalki' stands for 'the one who eliminates all kinds of filth from the universe.'

Hence, to celebrate the future birth of Kalki (tenth Avatar of Lord Vishnu), a special day has been reserved in Hindu dharma which is termed as "Kalki Jayanti." As per Hindu calendar, it falls on the very sixth day of (Shashthi) Shukla Paksha fortnight in Shravan month. This year, "Kalki Jayanti" is on the 10th August ‘24.

As per the prophetic texts, Lord Kalki would be born in the village of Sambhal in the Shambhala dynasty to a Brahmin family whose parents would be named Vishnuyasha and Sumati. He would be depicted with a white horse namely Devadatta, a talking parrot (Shukla) who would know everything about past, present & future, holding a sword, and is described as having exceptional warrior and leadership qualities.

Many religious texts prove that Lord Kalki has taken birth on the earth while some mention that he would be born when 'Ghor Kali Yuga' era would arrive.
